Heart disease kills more people in the Bronx than any other condition. Nearly half of adults in the Bronx have hypertension, and many are unaware of it or undertreated. Those numbers are why Moses Medical has a cardiologist on staff rather than relying solely on hospital referrals.

Our cardiology practice manages hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, valvular disease, and hyperlipidemia. Diagnostic workups include in-office EKGs, echocardiography, stress testing, and Holter monitoring. Lab work runs through our on-site lab, so a metabolic panel, lipid profile, and BNP can all come back the same day as your consultation.

For patients whose cardiac risk overlaps with diabetes, obesity, or kidney disease, the cardiologist coordinates directly with internal medicine and endocrinology within the same practice. Procedures requiring catheterization or surgery are referred to partner hospitals including St. Barnabas, Lincoln, and Jacobi.

What cardiology services do you offer?
We provide comprehensive cardiology care including heart disease screening, EKG/ECG testing, echocardiograms, blood pressure management, cholesterol management, heart failure monitoring, arrhythmia evaluation, and cardiac risk assessments. Our cardiologists work closely with your primary care provider to keep your heart health on track.
Do I need a referral to see the cardiologist?
It depends on your insurance plan. Most Medicaid and HMO plans require a referral from your primary care provider. PPO plans and Original Medicare generally do not require a referral. Our staff can help you figure out whether you need one and can coordinate with your primary care doctor if needed.
What are the warning signs of heart disease?
Common warning signs include chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath during normal activities, unusual fatigue, dizziness or lightheadedness, swelling in the legs or ankles, and a rapid or irregular heartbeat. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, schedule an evaluation as soon as possible. If you have sudden chest pain, call 911 immediately.
How often should I get my heart checked?
Adults over 40 should have a cardiovascular risk assessment at least once a year. If you have risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, a family history of heart disease, or if you smoke, you may need more frequent monitoring. Your provider will create a screening schedule tailored to your risk level.
