Genetic Testing

Step one: pre-test counseling. Your provider explains what a genetic test can reveal, what it cannot, and how the results will affect your care. This conversation happens before any sample is collected.

Step two: the test itself. For pharmacogenomics, a simple cheek swab analyzes how your DNA affects your response to medications for depression, anxiety, pain, and cardiovascular disease. The goal is to match the right drug and dose on the first try instead of months of trial and error. For hereditary cancer risk, the test screens for genetic predispositions to breast, ovarian, colorectal, and other cancers. Carrier screening identifies whether you carry genes for sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, or Tay-Sachs before planning a pregnancy.

Step three: results review. Your provider walks through every finding and translates it into a specific adjustment to your care plan, whether that means switching a medication, starting enhanced screening, or simply confirming that no changes are needed.
