About

The Bronx has one of the lowest ratios of psychiatrists to residents in New York City, and the communities hit hardest by that shortage are West African, Caribbean, and Francophone populations where mental health still carries deep stigma. That is exactly why Dr. Okafor practices here. He completed a community psychiatry fellowship at Columbia specifically to work in neighborhoods where patients need a provider who can discuss depression in Haitian Creole or explain medication options in French without losing clinical precision. His focus is on mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma, and he uses a combined approach of medication management and psychotherapy tailored to each patient’s cultural context.
